A Good Development
Iran and Syria have agreed to attend a conference this weekend, in Baghdad, in which the security of Iraq will be discussed. The government of Iraq will be hosting it, and the US and Great Britain will also attend, among other nations. This is a great step forward, and could go a long way toward ending the violence here.

As per your last post, maybe NBC News heard what General Petraeus had to say yesterday:
"The new US commander in Iraq has admitted that insurgents have intensified their attacks during the security crackdown in Baghdad, as he warned that there was no military solution to the nation’s bloody conflict."

General Petraeus Says There Is No Military Solution
And I am so glad to see nations coming together to talk about this situation, rather than fighting it out for years.
Milton, to be fair, the full context of Gen. Petraeus' comments were that there is no "purely" military solution.
Regardless, the comment isn't news. I can't think of anyone who has ever said there is a purely military solution.
However, one of the basic needs of a society is security, and that requires military and police action. The truth is that there is no purely diplomatic solution either.
A military pullout is not an option any time soon if we hope to stabilize Iraq.
