Pro Deo Et Patria- An Army Chaplain

I am a chaplain in the US Army, serving in Iraq. I'm keeping a blog to share my thoughts and experiences while deployed. They are my thoughts and they don't necessarily reflect the opinions of the US Army! :)

Interesting Article

Ok, this has nothing to do with deployment, but here is an interesting link to an article online:

http://www.jamesspann.com/wordpress/?p=650

It is written by a meteorologist, and has to do with global warming, something about which I know very little. Anyway, some of you might find it interesting. It's quite short.

Interesting article. But the fact of the matter is that the Weather Channel, the Big Brother who is going to take away certification, is a terrible organization. They're just a big commercial weather organization. Who cares what they think? There are many places where you can get better opinions, weather, and science information than the Weather Channel. This meteorologist blogger needs to dig deeper.

Global Warming is probably one of the most complex theories humanity has ever been faced with. It would take an arduous process of research, reading, writing, and discussion for any lay person to understand it, let alone develop an accurate opinion of it. Many people feel they know EXACTLY what the answer is. How? Did they spend years of their lives studying meteorology, climatology, biology, chemistry, physics? No. A very small portion of the population does that. Many of them become experts and tell us what they think is going on. That's why we have experts, so we don't have to study EVERYTHING to determine what the answer is. So for those people out there who think they know the answer to the problem is without reading much about it, read more. Keep learning about it! Never stop. I don't care what your opinion is, but you better have a really informed one.

Here's something for all to think about: even if man-made Global Warming is a fiction, an untruth, some Orwellian scheme to scare us, does that fact justify our current way of life? No way. We spew poisons into this planet every day, and we know it doesn't help. We kill ecological chains all the time, and no one cares.

We're going to ruin this planet unless we change the way we live. That's a fact, even if man-made Global Warming isn't.

I remember not too long ago they were all concerned about global cooling. We need to remember that we are in a fallen, broken world.

It isn't going to get better, and this world will eventually come to an end, not by us, but by our Creator.

We do, however, need to be good stewards of God's creation, just not worshippers of it.

The article you mentioned is about a weatherman here in my hometown.
This should really create some better discussions on both sides of the question.

I appreciate your blog so much. Sometime I forward it to my pastor and I know he is very encouraged and challenged by your faithfulness to the Word even in Iraq. Your love for sharing Christ's promise to all who will come is very clear in your thoughts to your men. We will continue in our prayers for you all as the LORD continues His way of bringing the whole world to bow the knee to Him.
